Started with one frustrated membership site
Web Power & Light grew out of a real problem: the existing WordPress membership plugins couldn't keep up. They were slow, fragile, and locked you into a single CRM. So we built Memberium: a membership platform that treats tags as a universal access primitive, keeps CRM logic in your CRM, and stays fast at scale.
That was 14 years ago. Today, Memberium runs on several thousand active sites.
Philosophy
Control beats magic
We don't ship features that decide things for you. Memberium gives you ~45 individually-toggled security controls, a CRM-agnostic API, and a consistent hook namespace, because the right answer for one membership site is wrong for the next.
We instrument first: every access check, every webhook, every login is logged. We ship a daily census and Site Health tests, not because every site will use them, but because the site that needs them really needs them.
Working together
You work with the person who built it
Engagements run directly with David, the person who wrote the code, with no layer of account managers in between. We work in PHP and SQL on the WordPress hook system, against the Redis and MariaDB stack your production site already runs, making the platform you chose work the way it should rather than re-platforming you.
Twenty years building for the web, the last fourteen on Memberium. David founded Web Power & Light in 2006 on the back of a decade in enterprise IT and defense: PKI and smart-card middleware for the Defense Department’s Common Access Card program at Litronic, then VP of Technology at OneCoach. He created Memberium in 2012 because the membership plugins already on the market couldn’t keep up with high-volume sites. In 2014 he brought Micah Mitchell from Castle Mountain onboard to run sales and marketing, and later created Sushi LMS and the WPAL Helpdesk alongside it. Memberium now runs on several thousand active sites and has peaked at 23 million managed users; the largest single customer site served over one million users.
